Where Showgone's information comes from
Here's where the info in Showgone comes from, what each status means, and what we can't do.
Vehicle details: NHTSA
Year, make, model and engine come from NHTSA's free vPIC database, run by the federal vehicle safety agency. Some details, like your emissions test group, may not be there. When a detail is missing, we show it as unknown.
EO numbers and CARB links
EO numbers come from two places. Some are Showgone's own extract from CARB's public EO documents, each with a link to the EO at CARB. Others are entered by owners or their shops, and Showgone doesn't compare those with CARB. Always open the EO at CARB to read the full document, including any newer version.
Part details: manufacturers, with permission
We use a manufacturer's part details and photos only when they've given us permission. Until then, you'll see a placeholder, and missing details show as unknown.
What you enter: kept separate
Anything you type, like an EO number or install date, is marked as entered by you.
What each status means
Every part shows a status, such as "Not looked into yet" or "EO document found at CARB. Showgone hasn't reviewed it." A status is never a ruling on the part.
Not looked into yet
Showgone hasn't researched this part yet.
EO document found at CARB
There's a link to this EO on CARB's site. Open it to read what it covers.
What Showgone can't do
- We can't tell you how a smog check will go.
- We can't tell you whether a part is OK to install on your vehicle.
- We can't see what's actually on your vehicle. Smog checks look at the real parts and the vehicle's condition, not just paperwork.
- A Showgone record isn't a CARB or BAR document, an EO label or an official certificate.
- We can't promise CARB's site is up, or that a link shows the newest EO version.
- CARB and your smog tech decide.
